Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a method of promoting the natural healing properties of the body and to improve functioning. It is done by inserting needles, but could also include applying heat, pressure, or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points. The points lie on channels of energy called meridians that flow through the body and nourish the tissues. When there is an obstruction, the energy backs up and causes problems in the body.  The meridians can be influenced by needling the acupuncture points with the acupuncture needles unblocking the obstructions and reestablish the regular flow through the meridians. Treatments will improve the  circulation of their energy through the meridians, thereby helping the body's internal organs to correct imbalances in their digestion, absorption, and energy production activities.

Although modern science has not caught up to this ancient tradition, it can be explained that the needles stimulate the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. This will either change the experience of pain, or trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body's own internal regulating system.

Acupuncture is beneficial for many conditions such as:

  • Pain Management - including back pain, headaches, migraines, sport and work related injuries

  • Digestive Complaints

  • Stress and Mental Health

  • Sleep issues

  • Fertility

  • Fatigue and General Well-Being

The number of treatments needed differs from person to person. For complex or long-standing conditions, one or two treatments a week for several months may be recommended. For acute problems, usually fewer visits are required, but generally several treatments are required for best results.
